description A pilot study was conducted to analyze some aspects related to digital culture in students belonging to two public universities in the north (Autonomous University of Baja California) and south (Autonomous University of Yucatan) of Mexico, based on contextual variables (demographic, socioeconomic, and technological). Digital culture, understood as a multidimensional construct and estimated from a set of variables (age, socioeconomic level, technological self-concept, among others) that affect it, was addressed through a questionnaire prepared based on four aspects: sociodemographic, academic, technological-institutional, and attitudinal. Under a quantitative design with a descriptive and comparative scope, the instrument was piloted during the second semester of 2023 in a non-representative intentional sample of university students, who answered it asynchronously and online. The results show significant contrasts in participants from the northwest and southeast of Mexico based on demographic characteristics (age), socioeconomic characteristics (mother/father's education, work in parallel to their studies), technological characteristics (years of experience, self-concept) and frequency of use. The above allows us to infer distinctive elements around digital culture in students from both universities. However, these findings should be taken with caution, given the limitation of the study sample, although they represent a good starting point to analyze in greater depth some aspects around digital culture in university students from opposite geographic areas within Mexico.

Se realizó un estudio piloto para analizar algunos aspectos relacionados con la cultura digital en estudiantes pertenecientes a dos universidades públicas del norte (Universidad Autónoma de Baja California) y sur (Universidad Autónoma de Yucatán) de México, en función de variables contextuales (demográficas, socioeconómicas y tecnológicas). La cultura digital, comprendida como un constructo multidimensional, y estimada a partir de un conjunto de variables (edad, nivel socioeconómico, autoconcepto tecnológico, entre otras) que la afectan, se abordó por medio de un cuestionario elaborado con base en cuatro aspectos: sociodemográficos, académicos, tecnológico-institucionales y actitudinales. A partir de un diseño cuantitativo con alcance descriptivo y comparativo, el instrumento fue piloteado durante el segundo semestre de 2023, en una muestra intencional no representativa del estudiantado universitario que lo contestó de manera asincrónica y en línea. Los resultados muestran contrastes significativos en las personas participantes del noroeste y sureste de México en función de características demográficas (edad), socioeconómicas (escolaridad de madre o padre, trabajo paralelo a sus estudios), tecnológicas (años de experiencia, autoconcepto) y frecuencia de uso. Lo anterior permite inferir elementos distintivos en torno a la cultura digital en el alumnado de ambas universidades. Sin embargo, estos hallazgos deben tomarse con cautela dada la limitación de la muestra de estudio, aun así, significan un buen punto de partida para analizar con mayor profundidad algunos aspectos en torno a la cultura digital del estudiantado universitario de zonas geográficas opuestas dentro de México. Foi realizado um estudo piloto para analisar e contrastar alguns aspectos da cultura digital em estudantes pertencentes a duas universidades públicas do norte e do sul do México, com base em variáveis ​​contextuais (demográficas, socioeconômicas e tecnológicas). Partindo da compreensão da cultura digital como um conceito multidimensional e considerando um conjunto de variáveis ​​(idade, nível socioeconómico, autoconceito tecnológico, entre outras) que a afetam, foi aplicado um questionário que abrange quatro vertentes: sociodemográficas, académicas, tecnológicas. institucional e atitudinal. Este instrumento foi testado durante 2023-2 numa amostra não representativa de estudantes universitários, que o responderam de forma assíncrona e online.
